Never Left Alone

1 min read

For God has said: “I will never leave you alone, and I will never forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

A child of God asked Him for a promise regarding his livelihood. One day he read the word: “Do not be a slave of money, and be content with what you have. For God has said: ‘I will never leave you alone, and I will never forsake you.’” (Heb. 13:5). He was surprised and rejoiced at this word. Such a promise has conditions: the first is that one must be free from greed for gain and content with what he already has, before he can experience the Lord’s abiding provision of support. He said Amen and Amen to this promise. In his last twenty years, on the one hand he held to the principle that “if anyone is unwilling to work, let him not eat” (2 Thess. 3:10), and on the other hand he experienced the Lord keeping the flour in the jar from running out and the oil in the flask from decreasing (see 1 Kings 17:8-16). The Lord did not do him wrong, nor did He leave him.
