Laying Aside Sin
1 min read
Because we have so many witnesses, like a cloud surrounding us, let us lay aside every burden and sin that so hinders us, and run with perseverance the race that is required of us. (Hebrews 12:1)
In running, two things are really important: one is to lay aside every burden, and the other is to leave sin behind. Sin is what hinders progress the most. It disqualifies a person from running. Sin is a violation of the rules; and he who misuses the rules is not permitted to run the race. He is ordered to be set aside. A believer must let go of and leave behind the sin that he knows. Whether it is jealousy, pride, uncleanness of heart, lies in the mouth, temper, or uncontrolled lust, it will make him unfit for the race. A Christian must stand on Romans 6:6 and 6:11 and reckon himself dead to sin. He must leave sins behind and must not allow sin to rule over him. He must also yield his members as instruments of righteousness to God. Whatever wrongs the Lord must be confessed, regretted, and honestly forsaken so that God’s forgiveness may be obtained.
