Running Out of Self-Confidence

1 min read

Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? (Romans 7:24)

We all know that no rescuer dares to save a person who has just fallen into the water. A wise rescuer will wait until the drowning person has struggled enough on his own in the water and begins to give up struggling.

In this way today God allows His children to struggle and struggle until they realize how futile their efforts are, because they only get themselves into a more dangerous position. The Lord will wait until their strength is exhausted and they themselves judge that they are dying. At that moment, their thoughts run like this: If the Lord does not save me, I cannot keep myself even for one minute; if the Lord does not save me, I will surely die! At that point the Lord holds out His saving hand. Whenever a believer has come to the end of trusting in himself, the Lord will fully save him at that moment.
