Better to Struggle at Rowing
1 min read
When He saw how wearily they rowed because of the headwind, about three o’clock at night He came to them walking on the water, and He intended to pass by them. (Mark 6:48)
It is better to suffer than to drift. It is far better to struggle at rowing than to sail with the wind; it is far better to go the hard way than to go the easy way and drift. Drifting consumes no energy. Stop rowing and the wind will carry us back to where we first started. Just a little compromise, a little letting go, and the wind will send us back. To love the world requires no effort: following the demands of the world requires no strength. But to stand and be faithful to the Lord is an invitation to meet the opposing wind, and soon we will feel pressed to row.
It is very easy to go back to the old place, but quite a few demands require us to move forward. But now is the time to be faithful. May we walk in the way that the Lord has determined.
